Why Marbella Chose My Gallery as Much as I Chose Marbella

Marbella is often painted in broad strokes; a frivolous destination, a playground of luxury and excess, a place to party. But to me, it has always been much more than that. It is a town of extraordinary beauty, where nationalities and cultures efortlessly coexist.

Marbella is a city where no boundaries apply because of the mix of cultures. It is also a place where rules bend, where freedom is embraced, and where remarkable individuals choose to make their homes. People who surround themselves with beauty, value uniqueness, and understand the power of art.

I too am a product of mixed upbringing—of Peruvian origin, having lived in seven cities across three different continents. I landed in Marbella by chance in 1997 and built a home and a family here. There is a lot I am thankful for in this city. When I first thought about opening a contemporary art gallery in Marbella, my aim was to have an open channel of dialogue with the artists, to understand them, and to help others see the world through their eyes. My broader ambition was to establish myself as one of the top galleries in Marbella, and that aim remains: to create a space where artists find room to grow and where meaningful connections between art lovers can be established. Over the years, I feel that an interesting and vibrant community has truly come together.

When I opened the gallery in 2019, I believed Marbella was a place of possibility. What I did not know was how much the city itself would shape the gallery. Its openness to new ideas, its blend of cultures, its appetite for freedom—these have not only given me permission to take risks, but have also pushed me to think differently. Here, boldness is not met with indifference but with curiosity and enthusiasm. In this way, Marbella chose my gallery as much as I chose Marbella.

Through risk, resilience, and an unshakable passion for art, these first years have been about daring experiments, bold exhibitions, and the excitement of building something new. I hope to have established the gallery as a space where art can be both discovered and deeply appreciated. As I look ahead, I feel proud of how far this journey has come in such a short time, and grateful for the incredible individuals I have met along the way—collectors, artists, and friends who have shaped this adventure and made it so meaningful.

Marbella is not only the backdrop to this story, it is its beating heart. With its beauty, diversity, and spirit of freedom, this city has allowed the gallery to grow into what it is today. It is a place that reminds me, again and again, that no boundaries apply when it comes to creativity, community, and the transformative power of art.
