Debbie's luxury dreams: A TEMPORARY INTERVENTION BY DEBBIE WINGHAM
Galería Isolina Arbulu is delighted to present Debbie's Luxury Dreams, a temporary intervention by Debbie Wingham, created in dialogue with the exhibition And This Is How I Paint My Dreams.
Inspired by the exhibition's central premise that every artist has a unique way of giving shape to dreams and imagination, Wingham was invited to reveal her own fantasy world. This intervention is her response.
Known for her extravagant reinterpretations of luxury culture, Wingham presents six sculptural works inspired by some of the most iconic symbols of fashion, status, and desire. Having grown up far removed from the world she now references, Wingham approaches luxury with both fascination and irony. Transforming recognizable objects such as the Birkin bag into sculptural pieces that exist between art, design, and fantasy, she exposes luxury not simply as an object of desire, but as a cultural myth capable of shaping dreams, ambitions, and identities.
Removed from their original function, these familiar icons become playful, surreal, and deliberately theatrical. With sharp irony, Wingham both celebrates and questions the mythology of luxury, exposing the dreams, aspirations, and illusions projected onto the objects we desire. Her sculptures seduce the viewer while subtly revealing the mechanisms behind that seduction.
Installed throughout the gallery, the intervention enters into dialogue with And This Is How I Paint My Dreams. While the painters in the exhibition express their dreams through colour, gesture, and perception, Wingham paints hers through the symbols of contemporary luxury. Together, these parallel worlds invite us to reflect on the many forms dreams can take, from the intimate and emotional to the glamorous and aspirational. This is Debbie Wingham's fantasy world.
