PAPER AS A TRANSFORMATIVE MATERIAL

An Artistic Dialogue Between East and West

Saturday, 14 November · 12:00–14:00

As part of Marbella Gallery Weekend, visual artist Marta Bernad will share her experience in Japan, where she completed an artist residency at Echizen Washi Village, exploring the traditional techniques of mokuhanga woodblock printing and washi papermaking.

Her experience will open a dialogue with the work of South Korean artist Kyungtaek LEE, whose exhibition Where the Erased Remains is currently on view in the gallery's Black Room.

Lee explores the boundaries of photography and its relationship with memory and absence. Printing his images on hanji, traditional Korean paper, he uses a delicate process of manual erasure and reconstruction to transform reproducible photographs into unique artworks, where what disappears becomes as meaningful as what remains.

An encounter between two contemporary artistic practices exploring how material and craftsmanship transform the image, turning paper from a simple support into an essential part of the creative process.
