Overview

There are moments that do not belong to us. Gestures that unfold when no one is watching, spaces that preserve the traces of those who inhabit them, thoughts that are never spoken aloud.

The Unguarded Moment brings together three emerging artists connected to the Andalusian art scene — Laura Ray, Amapola Jiménez and Johanna Failer — whose works explore the territories of intimacy through three distinctive approaches to figurative painting.

Laura Ray invites us into the invisible landscapes of the mind. Through figures, geometric forms and soft colours, her paintings give shape to emotions and thoughts that usually remain concealed, blurring the boundaries between inner experience and external reality.

Amapola Jiménez discovers the extraordinary in the seemingly insignificant. Filled with colour, irony and playful irreverence, her paintings capture everyday gestures rarely considered worthy of representation, inviting us to look without prejudice at what might otherwise make us uncomfortable.

Johanna Failer constructs spaces suspended between reality and imagination. Silent interiors, isolated objects and unexpected perspectives suggest invisible presences and stories that never fully reveal themselves. In her paintings, the familiar takes on an unsettling intimacy.

Three ways of looking at what usually remains beyond our gaze. Their works turn us into silent witnesses, almost voyeurs, of scenes that seem never to have been intended for our eyes.

For there is something irresistible about glimpsing into the lives of others. And perhaps, through that stolen glance, we end up discovering something of ourselves.
