Overview
Beyond the horizon, Angélica Arbulu

A challenge to to look beyond our own horizon. It is the acceptance of our barrier to understand the experience of the other.

The photographs that look beyond the limits contrast as in an impossible dialogue with the figures trapped by technology that cruelly ignore the reality that surrounds them. Stella Kamazón's sculptures propose a reflection between the gaze of the two artists: men who are lost in a different horizon, trapped in a virtual world that opens up new frontiers and at the same time distracts them from the more human realities that parade around them like forgotten ghosts. Realities that coexist in the same space without communicating. This new horizon that opens up unexplored paths and at the same time limits and isolates us.

A dialogue between photography and sculpture; Spanish photographer Angélica Arbulú, a clinical psychologist specialising in International Relations, has been working in the humanitarian development sector for 18 years. After six years working with the UN and UNICEF, she became an independent consultant in humanitarian programmes. Photography, however, has been her passion from an early age. Through her fieldwork, Angelica has been a privileged witness to the inequalities and uniqueness of our world, using her camera as a tool to make sense of her encounters. The result is a coherent and meaningful body of work, with images full of curiosity and compassion.

This collection of images captured by Angélica Arbulú's camera over several years and in diverse circumstances, challenges us to look beyond our horizon. It is the acceptance of our barrier to understand the experience of the other, because we will never know how it feels to live in the skin of others or where a certain look is born. Angelica invites us to embrace our limits. What unites us irrevocably is the human experience: fear, love, longing and hope are common, but never in the same way.

As a counterpoint in this peculiar exhibition, the Marbella artist Stella Kamazón, painter, engraver and sculptor, presents a selection of her works. Trained at the School of Arts and Crafts in Valladolid, Stella has worked as a teacher in Marbella, giving classes in ceramics and crafts in workshops and educational centres. This proximity to students of different ages leads her to contemplate the world with the introspection of a privileged spectator.
