Overview
Identity, collective memory and new technologies intersect to form my visual narrative.

The work of Cádiz-based artist Jaime Velázquez blurs the boundaries between figuration and abstraction, exploring themes of identity, collective memory, and the impact of new technologies. As a master of oil painting, Velázquez’s impeccable technique is evident in his ability to merge realistic forms with abstract elements, creating a dynamic interplay between the two. His paintings often capture everyday moments, revealing the underlying disjointedness and incoherence of contemporary life.

Infused with a utopian vision, Velázquez’s work portrays characters who seem disconnected from their true essence, trapped in a kind of limbo shaped by the algorithms and forces that dictate our lives. The moral complexity of his figures contrasts with the vibrant luminosity of his paintings, where colors and abstract forms interweave to evoke a sense of unease and reflection. His art speaks to a society caught in the chaos of urban consumerism, existential uncertainty, and the pervasive influence of technology.
