Overview
"In an era of digital saturation, my work invites a deeper reflection on our relationship with the visual. Beyond mere consumption, I seek to rekindle awareness of physical experience and shared presence, emphasizing the value of human connection in an increasingly virtual world."

In the contemporary art world, Quique Sarzamora emerges as a provocateur of the consciousness of the present, challenging established conventions and exploring new creative horizons. His work is not limited to mere representation; rather, it delves into the very essence of human experience, redefining the boundaries of traditional art.

For Quique, painting is a process that begins long before the brush touches the canvas. It is an exploration of the underground, of what precedes ground zero. From the layout of the canvas to the application of the pigment, each step is a quest to make visible what lies beneath the surface.

The result of his meticulous work are direct yet subtle fields of colour that defy photographic capture. To fully appreciate his work, the viewer must abandon distance and immerse themselves in the physical experience of the painting. Only then do the subtleties emerge, the signs of affection, crisis and healing.

Biography

Quique Sarzamora (Seville, 1992) is a Spanish contemporary artist whose practice explores painting as a space of perception, materiality, and transformation. He graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Seville in 2015 and completed a Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Artistic Production at the University of Málaga in 2017. His education was further shaped through workshops and seminars with artists and thinkers such as Antonio López, Andrés García Ibáñez, Ignacio Estudillo, and Chema Cobo.

For Sarzamora, painting begins long before the image appears. His work investigates the processes that precede representation, seeking to make visible the tensions, intuitions, and sensations that exist beneath the surface of the image. Through subtle fields of colour, layered compositions, and a careful attention to material presence, he creates works that invite slow looking and direct physical engagement.

His recent solo exhibitions include Caprichos. La Parte y el Todo at Galería Isolina Arbulu, Marbella (2025), De la imagen tradicional a los cuerpos del alba at Fundación Antonio Gala, Córdoba (2024), Los colores del atardecer preparan los del alba at CAC Francisco Hernández, Vélez-Málaga (2024), Óleo y Carne at Galería Magasé, Seville (2021), and Evento Carrington at Museo Cabra del Santo Cristo, Jaén (2020).

His work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs, including Estampa Contemporary Art Fair (Madrid, 2024) and By Invitation Art Fair (Barcelona, 2025). He has received several awards, among them the First Prize in the III Emerging Artists Competition at Loyola University (2021), the First Prize “21 Días en el CAC” (2022), and an Honourable Mention at the I Barceló Hotel Visual Arts Award (2025).

Sarzamora’s work is held in both public and private collections, including the Fundación Antonio Gala, Universidad Loyola, and several institutional collections across Spain.
